2010 Musical Legacy ?

What the millions of soccer fans around the world hear on their television sets during the match broadcasts will become the Musical Legacy of 2010. At present the only thing TV fans can hear is the big vuvuzela buzzing sound.  Not a very “Musical” Legacy for one of the most musical nations in the world.

This state of affairs is hard to understand both from a cultural and from a commercial perspective and to date the commercial (and musical) exploitation of the 84 hours world wide TV and radio broadcast time that the 2010 soccer matches will occupy is unclaimed.

The Vuvuzela Orchestra:

-    Uses an ancient African music making idea.

-    Generates a great amount of positive feeling.

-    Is receiving coverage on all major TV and Satellite channels as well as radio. (see publicity)

-    Takes advantage of the free publicity created by the “Noisy” Vuvuzela recent controversy.

-    Recognizes, reactivates and exploits the powerful repertoire of South African soccer songs.

-    Recognizes the Vuvuzela as an important and inescapable presence in SA stadiums in 2010 and beyond.

-    Entrenches the Vuvuzela by including their call and response patterns in the song arrangements.

-    Creatively extends the Vuvuzela into making chords.

-    Can make soccer broadcast sound space useful on economic and musical terms.
